On the trail and hiking side
Thanks to its privileged geographical location, Mandelieu-La Napoule offers direct access to both the Esterel and Tanneron Massifs. It is an ideal destination for Green Tourism. Winter is actually the best time of the year for hiking. Its exceptional light highlights the amazing colours cherished by the great 20th-century painters. The Tanneron Massif is known worldwide for its mimosa forests, in bloom from December to March. The starting point for many trekking trails directly from Capitou Hill in Mandelieu (in particular the GR 51 hiking trail) opens the way for many loop itineraries in the Grand-Duc Communal Forest. Very popular in winter for aficionados or mimosa, professionals have organised to offer stays devised around the famous flower, with tours of greenhouses or sending mimosa to the family.
Thus, the Esterel Massif boasts no less than at least 400km (250 miles) of trails, forest paths and routes to be covered on foot or with a mountain bike. Truly a green lung for the Côte d’Azur, it offers exceptional panoramas over landscapes preserved from the French Riviera’s urbanisation sprawl. Red volcanic rocks plunging into the ‘deep blue’ Mediterranean for a striking contrast! And, the mild winter climate of the Côte d’Azur enables visitors to share privileged moment in the heart of the Esterel Massif, whether with a family outing in simple T-shirt or around a picnic with a breathtaking view over the sea…
