La Corniche d’Or follows the coastline and the Esterel Massif. Built at the start of the 20th century on the initiative of the Touring Club de France, it is one of the most spectacular routes in France. Driving there is a source of constant wonder, with exceptional panoramas between the red volcanic rocks of the Massif and the azure blue of the Mediterranean waters.
Following the railroad track, La Corniche d’Or road runs through several seaside resorts: Théoule-sur-Mer, Le Trayas, Agay, Le Dramont and Anthéor. It is remarkable for its perfect symbiosis with the coastline. Indeed, given the rugged relief of the Maritime Alps, La Corniche d’Or road does not always follow the coast at sea level; it sometimes moves away, rising to different altitudes overlooking the sea. It is very popular with cyclists, especially on weekends, with its highest point in the Esterel Massif at an altitude of 110m (360 ft.) at Pointe de la Galère.
